visual Unthinking (Tipp-Ex) 2

Ingredients, toxicology, and environmental issues

The organic solvent 1,1,1-trichloroethane used to be used as a thinner in the product. This solvent is readily absorbed by the lungs via inhalation. It passes readily through the blood-brain barrier and may be lethal following acute exposure.1,1,1-trichloroethane is also an 'ozone depleter', being one of the substances responsible for causing damage to the Earth's ozone layer. For both reasons, it has not been added to Tipp-Ex since 2000, and it has been replaced by aliphatic hydrocarbons.

Before we started thinking about how we wanted our video to look like,a nd what we wanted our main idea to be,. We all thought that expriementing with burning Tipp-ex would be a good place to start. We found it interesting that the Tipp-ex would only burn when it was wet, and that it needed a fair anount to keep a big flame., then once it had dried up the flame would die out.  From doing our research we notcied that Tipp-es does come with a lot of heath and safety warnings but is freely sold and used in school. After performing i few experiments we all decided that the idea of burning should play a part in our one minute video. On the right is a few examples of our Tipp-ex burning,

Story board

After disscussing what we thought our video should be saying about Tipp-Ex and its function, we all agreed that its main purpose was to cover up mistakes that had been made and allow you to re write what was already written.
We used this idea for the start of our video, Tipp-Exing out what was written on the brief  given to us, changing it to say something we wanted it to, about something we thought was interesting which was thr process of  burning it. We started of our video by taking images as we went through the brief and Tipp-Exed the writing out. We then chose to include footage of  the Tipp-Ex burning after this section and include a caption along the lines of ‘If you don’t like the brief change it’ which we thought would sum up what we were trying to say.
